PURPOSE:To provide the titled material having excellent oxygen barrier properties, water vapor barrier properties and mechanical characteristics, by blending large quantities of mica and short glass fiber with a thermoplastic resin and molding the mixture by melt-extrusion. CONSTITUTION:20-60pts.wt. mica having an average diameter of 10-60mum and a thickness of 0.5-2mum and 0-60pts.wt. short glass fiber having an average diameter of 10mum and a length of 40-80mum and pref. contg. boric acid are mixed with 100pts.wt. thermoplastic resin (e.g. PE) in a twin-screw extruder. The mixture is extruded therethrough and cut into pellets. The pellets are dried by heating and molded into a sheet by melt-extrusion to obtain a sheet- form barrier material.
