PURPOSE:To break easily the gate of a casting without spoiling the product by opening holes to a casting mold near the gate part of the casting and removing the sand from the hole parts prior to knock-out then inserting gate breaking tools into the above-mentioned holes and breaking the gate part or riser part. CONSTITUTION:A casting frame 3 on a molding board 2 is fed to the home position below a frame 12 by a conveyor 1 and a drill mounting plate 8 is lowered by a cylinder 13 to fit guide pins 9 into bushings 3a of the flask 3. A rotating device 11 is driven to advance drills 10 into the casting mold 4. The hole parts 6 are formed by the drills 10. The driving of the device 11 is stopped when the tips of the drills 10 move near to the riser part of the casting 5 and thereafter the cylinder 13 is further lowered until the drills 10 collide against the riser part to break the gate part and the runner part. The sure gate breaking is thus executed with relatively rough positioning accuracy without giving an adverse influence to the product part.
