PURPOSE:To output character images of high quality by writing sampling data, which is read out on a basis of a sampling lattice pitch set in accordance with a rotating command, in a rotated character image memory in accordance with a write address. CONSTITUTION:A character image to be rotated is designated and the rotating command, center coordinates (Xm, Yn) of rotation, and a rotation angle theta are set by an input part 60, and a write control part 68 reads out character image data from a data storage part 67 and develops it to a bit map in an original character image memory 66. Meanwhile, a pitch width setting part 62 sets pitch width in the (x) direction and the (y) direction to, for example,2<1/2>-1 and 1 respectively in accordance with the designated rotating command, and an address control part 63 sets read addresses in accordance with the pitch width of the pitch width setting part 62. A write control part 71 writes character image data, which is read out from the original character image memory 66, in addresses of a rotated character image memory 72 which correspond to rotated coordinates converted to integers. Thus, drop-out of dots due to rotation of the character image is prevented to output the character image of high quality.
