An apparatus is described for electrodialysis, in particular of metals, in which a frame of U-shape and U-shaped cross-section is provided, in the middle of which is arranged an electrode and on both sides of this one membrane each, pressed against the facing inner surfaces of the flanges of the U profile of the U-shaped frame by means of support grid plates and a distendable hollow profile, so that the electrode chamber is sealed from the remaining electrolyte. In addition, outer support grid plates can be provided which support the membrane on the outer surfaces, and inlets and outlets for the electrolyte.
