PURPOSE:To detect both leading and falling of a voltage in a quick response by rectifying an input signal at a positive/negative half wave, holding a peak of the output, setting alternately at each half wave of the input the holding means and extracting a higher hold voltage. CONSTITUTION:An input AC signal is inputted in common to a positive half wave rectifier circuit 1a, a negative half wave rectifier circuit 1b and a rectangular wave covering circuit 7. An output signal from the positive half wave rectifier circuit 1a and the negative half wave rectifier circuit 1b is led respectively to peak hold capacitors 2a, 2b and an output of each peak hold means, e.g., the peak hold capacitors 2a, 2b is inputted in common to a switch 4 and a comparator 6 via reset circuits 3a, 3b respectively. The switch 4 is controlled by the output of the comparator 6 to select alternatively the output of the reset circuits 3a, 3b. The selected output is outputted via a buffer 5.
