A tennis string, consisting of natural gut or plastic, for tennis rackets has in comparison with the previous cross-sectionally approximately circular form, at least one flat or flattened-off area, thereby achieving in the case of crossing tennis strings a reduction in the heat generation caused by a displacement of the crossing tennis strings in the region of the crossings as a consequence of hitting a tennis ball. According to one embodiment, the cross-sectional form of the tennis string is largely oval. Preferably, reinforcing fibres are provided, lying withing the cross-sectional form.
