Process for the conversion of carbon monoxide by steam, characterised in that the reaction is carried out at a temperature of between approximately 200 and 350¬ C and at a pressure of between approximately 5 and 140 bars, with a thioresistant catalyst comprising an active phase comprising a metal chosen from amongst molybdenum, vanadium or tungsten and an activity promoter consisting of cobalt and/or nickel, the said active phase being deposited on a cerium oxide support.
