A system which has an accelerator pedal switch (1) for sensing the deceleration of a motor vehicle, and an electronic circuit operative to cut-off fuel during deceleration of the motor vehicle in order to reduce the fuel consumption. If the switch (1) fails and remains closed during start-up of the vehicle, the electronic circuit operates to maintain the supply of fuel in order to prevent stalling of the engine.
