PURPOSE:A rubber composition excellent in flame retardancy and adhesion to metallic materials, obtained by adding micro-capsules containing an organic halide flame retardant to a rubber composition containing a blended halogen-free rubber. CONSTITUTION:Microcapsules are prepared by encapsulatiang a flame retardant comprising an organic halide such as chlorinated paraffin or tetrabromobiphenyl ether with a polymeric material (e.g., polyethylene or polyacrylonitrile). 20-100 pts.wt. these microcapsules are added to 100pts.wt. rubber composition containing at least one blended halogen-free rubber (e.g., natural rubber or butadient rubber) to obtain the purpose flame-retarding rubber composition. The obtained flame- retarding rubber composition has excellent adhesion to metallic materials, so that it can be suitably used for, e.g., bonding the covering rubber layer of a steel conveyor belt with its steel belt.
