PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which decreases the microcracks, etc. on a billet surface and to improve the surface characteristic thereof by providing billet holding cover parts having small heat capacity and large radiation rate to a secondary cooling zone by water spraying of a continuous casting device and maintaining the billet surface at the temp. near a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The cover parts 8 made of porous ceramics such as, for example, ceramic fibers or porous ceramics having the small heat capacity and large radiation rate are provided in the second half of the secondary cooling zone which starts from the part right under the casting mold 2 of the continuous casting device and sprays 6 water in guide roll parts 5. The radiation energy of the billet 4 is conversely applied to the billet 4 to maintain the surface temp. of the billet 4 at about 1,200 deg.C. As a result, the generation of the microcracks, etc. on the billet surface is decreased and the improvement in the surface characteristic thereof is made possible. The covers 8 may be made into an L-shaped local holding type meeting the shape of the corner part of the billet 4. |
