PURPOSE:To prevent an error of an information processing system due to the malfunction of an interface by detecting the power supply application state of each peripheral device and detecting an operation unable state of the interface based on the result of said detection of the power supply application state. CONSTITUTION:A host computer 10 stores previously the device control information including the information on the power supply states of peripheral devices 11-1-11-n in an internal memory 12. A controller 13 controls the interface between the computer 10 and each peripheral device and contains a memory 14 which stores the device control information supplied from the computer 10. Furthermore the controller 13 detects the power supply application states of those devices 11-1-11-n and stores an operation unable flag to a flag register 15 in case the interface action is unable based on the results of detection of said power supply application states.
