PURPOSE:To complete a performance of an electrochromic display element (ECD), without an error about a distribution of an exchanging groups between a surface layer part of the film and an inner part of the film by applying a surface active agent of an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:The ECD element is constituted by laminating a transparent conductive film, an electrochromic film, an electrolyte and a counter electrodes. The error about the distribution of the exchanging groups is lost by using the surface active agent as the electrolyte. The electrolyte of the ECD element comprises a mixture of the surface active agent and a kind of an ion permeability polymer selected from the group composed of an ion permeability nonionic polymer, a cationic polymer, an anionic polymer and a nonionic polymer. By using the surface active agent as the electrolyte, the distribution of the exchanging groups between the surface layer part of the film and the inner part of the film is carried out without any error, thereby completing the performance of the titled element.
