Compsns. for intravenous injection comprise a sparingly soluble drug (I), up to 30 wt.% of an oil phase, 0.1-10 wt.% emulsifier, balance H2O. The oil phase contains up to 50 wt.% (I) and comprises: (a) medium-chain fatty acid esters (II); or (b) a mixt. of at least 10 wt.% (II) and up to 90 wt.% vegetable and/or animal oil (III); or (c) a mixt. of (II), (III) and 0.3-200 wt.% (based on oil) of benzyl alcohol. - (I) is a corticosteroid, benzodiazepine, antiepileptic, chemotherapeutic, cardiac glycoside, ergot alkaloid, cytostatic, barbiturate, oil-soluble vitamin, dihydropyridine deriv. (esp. nifedipin, nimodipin, nitrendipin or nisoldipin), imidazole or triazole deriv. (esp. 1-(4-chlorophenoxy -3,3-dimethyl-3- 1,2,4-triazol-2-ylmethyl) -2-butanol), muzolimine or proponidol.
