A display element for mounting on a printed circuit board has a light-emitting diode (LED) (3) and a device for lighting up a light outlet surface (8). A fibre optic light guide (1) forms the device for lighting up the light outlet surface and the light outlet surface itself. This fibre optic light guide has a recess (2) that has a light-stimulating surface (2') for light from the LED and is fastened with the LED.
