PURPOSE:To permit the positioning of optical fibers to any angle by providing a toric bench, fine adjustment bases which are freely glidable and can be fixed to any optional position, optical fiber holding mechanisms and a sample base existing in the position near the center of the circle of the toric bench. CONSTITUTION:The fine adjustment bases 14 are freely glidably mounted to the toric bench 12 and each base 14 is constituted of a slider 16 having the shape complementray with the shape in the upper part of the bench 12, a fine adjustment mechanism 18 and the optical fiber holding mechanism 20 thereon. The optical fiber 4 is mounted to the mechanism 20 after an optical circuit 1 is placed on the sample base 62. The wedge-shaped member of the mechanism 20 is inclined by 20-30 deg. and therefore the top end of the optical fiber faces downward. The base 14 is then moved along the bench 12 to match the top end of the optical fiber with the position of an optical fiber guide 5 where the top end of the fiber is fixed by a set screw 32. The operator pushes successively the optical fiber toward the base 62 by adjusting finely the position of the fiber by operating knobs 40, 42, 44 of the base 12. The optical fiber 4 is inserted into the guide 5 when the fiber is successively pushed toward the base 62. The positioning of the optical fiber and the optical circuit is thus completed.
