NEW MATERIAL:The benzothiazolone derivative of formula I (R is H, R<1>CO or R<1>NHCO; A is H, HCO, R<2>CO, group of formula II, formula III, R<2>SO2, R<2>NHCO, etc.; R and A are not H at the same time; R<1> is 1-4C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; R<2> is 1-4C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 2-5C alkenyl, etc.). EXAMPLE:3-Acetyl-6-(3'-n-propylureido)-benzothiazolone. USE:Useful as a fungicide for agricultural and horticultural use. It exhibits especially remarkable effect against the late blight of tomato, downy mildew of cucumber, blast or rice plant, helminthosporium leaf spot o rice plant, etc. It is also effective against the phytopathogenic phycomycetes, ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, etc. PREPARATION:The objective compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting 6-aminobenzothiazolone of formula IV e.g. with the compound of formula HCOOH, R<2>COX (X is halogen), etc.
