PURPOSE:To perform efficient inspection operation by controlling the density of a display image on a color monitor according to the quantity of input light to a control means for the quantity of input light and also controlling color balance by moving the data table of a gradation converting means in parallel. CONSTITUTION:A negative film 1 is irradiated with a specific quantity of light from a light source 3 which is controlled by a control circuit 20 and an image is picked up by a TV camera 4 and supplied to a logarithmic converting circuit 6 through an A/D converter 5. A brightness signal DS from the circuit 6 is color-corrected by a color correcting circuit 7 and gradation-converted by a look-up table 8, and a positive image is displayed on the color monitor 10 through a DA converter 9. In this case, the circuit 20 controls the brightness of the monitor 10 by controlling the aperture extent of an ND dimming unit 2 and the color balance of the monitor 10 is adjusted by moving the table 8 in parallel. Thus, the inspection operation is performed efficiently.
