A floating tool-holder 1 for holding a reamer 8 or like tool, Fig. 1, so that it can align itself with a hole to be reamed, comprises a housing 2, a bushing 4 supporting a split collet 6, a driver 16, and a driver plate 17. Bushing 4 is radially movable relative to driver plate 17, Fig. 2, by a key and key-way connection 38, 36 and the driver plate is radially movable in a direction normal to the first direction relative to driver 16 by a second similar connection 24, 25, sets of ball bearings 29 being provided for facilitating the sliding movement. The rotating or non- rotating tool 8 is centred in the housing 2 when the tool is released from the work, by a spring centring mechanism 55 which comprises a plunger 56 located by a ball sleeve 61, a spring 63 adjustable by a screw 70, and a thrust ball and recess 66, 67-68.
