A high voltage vacuum interrupter switch has high dielectric strength achieved by preventing exposure of solid brazing rings to the vacuum by accommodating them in grooves. In the vacuum interrupter the comtact assembly is mounted within a cylindrical metallic housing sealed to ceramic end faces to form a vaccum envelope. Auxilliary sealing members in the form of machined metallic rings are interposed between the housing and the upper and lower end faces.
