PURPOSE:To reduce manufacturing cost, by filling a purification unit with activated carbon so as to leave a gas vent space and stacking a required number of purification units. CONSTITUTION:Contaminated tap water is flowed into an inlet chamber 7 from inlet pipes 8, 8 and flowed into the laminated bed of activated carbon 18 from the through-holes of a perforated plate 14 and, during this time, the contaminant contained in tap water is adsorbed and removed by activated carbon. Purified water is further upwardly passed through a purification unit 3B of an upper stage and finally passes through the purification unit 3C of the uppermost stage to be further purified and flowed into an outlet chamber 24 of an outlet 4 to be taken out from an intake pipe 25. The regeneration treatment of activated carbon, of which the purification capacity was lowered, is performed by applying pulse voltage to electrode rods 151 and 152, 152 and 153..., while said electrode rods are moved in combination to the traverse direction, to remove the contaminant in tap water.
