PURPOSE:To reduce the load on the battery in an internal combustion engine which has on its rotating shaft an electrical rotary machine that is switchable to a generator or a motor by controlling the switching of them in response to the engine rotation angular speed. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine 2 experiences a reduction of the angular speed during the compression stroke, and an increase during the explosion stroke. In order to cope with such, a counter torque is given to the internal combustion engine 2 by comparing the average angular speed with the angular speed as detected by a detecting means 6 such as a rotary encoder etc. by a control means 8, and if the detected angular speed exceeds the average angular speed, an electrical rotary machine 4 coupled to a rotating shaft of the internal combustion engine 2 is operated as a generator. If the detected angular speed is smaller than the average angular speed, the electrical rotary machine 4 is operated as a synchronized motor to provide the internal combustion engine 2 with a supplemental torque. |
