PURPOSE:To improve the readiness of an assembly to a vehicle by enabling a device itself to connect or disconnect a rear wheel driving system to or from rear wheel axles separately from a lever operating force of a transfer gear when a change-over between a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive is effected. CONSTITUTION:Change-over to a four wheel drive allows a drive gear to mesh with a ring gear 13 permitting a case 7 to rotate. This causes cases 7 and 9 and a cone plate 51 to rotate relatively permitting a friction 43 to be subjected to a frictional force from a cone surface 51a. The rotation of the friction plate 43 allows a cam late 41 to be subjected to a resisting force. This causes a traveling body 17 to be energized by a compression spring 27 and to move to the left following the movement of an operating arm. This resultantly, allows a gear 17a and a gear 17b to start meshing simultaneously with a connecting gear 33 and a connecting gear 35 respectively permitting both a right and left axles to be rotated as an integral unit.
