A hearing aid for deaf persons with high-frequency hearing loss comprises a sound input with sound receiver 1, an adjustable amplifier circuit 2, 3, 4, and a sound transmitter 5. The regulating section 3 of the amplifier circuit has at least one regulating element P1 which is operated by the user, who can in this way change the slope of the amplifier's frequency response for frequencies higher than a transition frequency, so that a variable treble emphasis is achieved. The device can also have a different regulating element, which is an essentially frequency-independent primary gain control, which is adjusted by the audiologist on the basis of the patient's data, including audiograms. The invention also concerns a method and the application of the hearing aid to compensate for high-frequency hearing loss. In this way, the hearing impaired with high-frequency hearing loss can themselves little by little fine-tune the hearing aid, and thus one avoids the usual adjustment problems, so that the user more easily becomes familiar with using the hearing aid. <IMAGE>
