PURPOSE:To scale down a drum drive motor and to activate a rotary drum having a certain mass which ensures a fly wheel effect by equipping a clutch between the rotary spindle of the drum and the drum drive motor. CONSTITUTION:Video heads 2 and 2' rotated together with the rotary drum 1 by the video head are fitted directly to the lower surface of the rotary drum 1 or to a separate head base, while a fixed drum 3 is disposed adjacent to the lower surface of the rotary drum 1. When the drum motor is activated, clutch plates 10 and 11 are separated each other by a solenoid 21 and in the state with less load. After a certain period expires from the activation of the drum motor, the solenoid 21 is driven by a signal from a control circuit 22 to shift a clutch retainer 20, which presses the clutch plate 11, and the clutch plates 11 and 10 are connected to transmit the rotation to a drum spindle 9. Then the rotary drum 1 and the video heads 2 and 2' are rotated accompanied with the rotation of the drum spindle 9. Thus even small-sized drum motors 7 and 8 can activate the rotary drum 1 having a certain mass for ensuring the fly wheel effect.
