PURPOSE:To obtain the title sanitary water purifier having ling service life, high efficiency, and a ling exchange cycle of a cartridge by forming a by pass passage for discharging untreated water directly from a purified water outlet without passing the untreated water through a treating agent such as activated carbon when the water passage is switched to a water purifying passage. CONSTITUTION:Changeover valves 17 and 18 for switching untreated water passages 4, 6, and 12 to purified water passages 4, 5, and 19 by selective operations are provided, and water is passed through a freely detachable water purifying cartridge 10 provided with a treating agent such as activated carbon and a filter, when the passage is switched to the water purifying passage. A by pass passage 100 for discharging untreated water directly from a purified water outlet 19 without passing the untreated water through the treating agent 8 such as activated carbon when the passage is switched to the water purifying passage is formed in the water purifier. Consequently, a water purifier having long service life, high efficiency, and a long exchange cycle of the cartridge and which is sanitary and absolutely safe can be obtained.
