The low-friction frictional drive of a cross-wound bobbin by a winding appliance (1) with three rotatable elements (4, 5, 6) is achieved at a low outlay in that the middle element (4) is connected fixedly in terms of rotation to the driven shaft (3), whilst the two outer rotatable elements (5, 6) are mounted freely rotatably on the shaft (3) by means of rolling bearings (28, 29) and are connected to one another by means of differential gears (16, 17), the middle element (4) serving as a web and the differential gear (17) of one rotatable element (6) having an external toothing (39), whereas the differential gear (16) of the other element (5) has an internal toothing (38). The gearwheels (26, 27) engaging into the toothings (38, 39) have a single common shaft (25). <IMAGE>
