A communication system comprises a plurality of communication stations (1-3, 5, 6) connected in a ring around which a first number of blocks of first information and a second number of block of second information are alternately transmitted together with a leading synchronisation block. For example, the first set of information may comprise voice information while the second comprises data. Each communication station (1-3) to which both sets of information are fed is adapted to separate the incoming information into the first and second sets, and is further adapted to insert information of both sets into the ring as a number of interleaved blocks for transmitting to a downstream station.
