An electric motor, especially a split-cage motor, has a stator which has a stator winding (9, 10) and a stack (8) of stator laminates, the stator winding being electrically insulated from the laminate stack in each winding slot by means of an insulating part (17) which is of U-shaped cross-section and projects beyond the laminate stack in the axial direction. Wires of the stator winding are connected to a plug strip (18), and connecting wires (29) which can be connected to a power source can be connected or separated therefrom as desired. A motor housing (11) has an incision (26) for passing the connecting wires to the plug strip. A holding device (19) is used for holding the plug strip inside the motor housing. In order to create an electric motor to which the plug strip can be fitted without an insulating chamber, the plug strip and the holding device intrinsically form a unit, without using a motor part. The unit has at least two holding pins (20 to 22) for engagement between in each case adjacent insulating parts, and a supporting element (23) which can be supported on the laminate stack (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
