The invention relates to a method and a device for dividing pasty or doughy masses. Instead of cutting right through the mass in one process using a cutting pattern, as has been carried out to date, the invention envisages use of a cutting tool which only makes partial cuts in each case and, with corresponding further development, divides up a mass in accordance with a programmed sequence. Soft masses, which have hitherto had to be cooled for cutting, can also be divided in this way, at low cutting powers. The cutting pattern can also be changed with particular ease, by changing the program.
