Process for mirror finishing a disc-shaped workpiece, comprising: the symmetrical arrangement of water-permeable and elastic grinding elements (5) on both sides of a rotationally arranged disc-shaped workpiece (1) consisting of aluminium; moving the grinding elements (5) in a vertical direction with respect to a shaft for the workpiece, the grinding elements being pressed against the two sides of the workpiece; and supplying an operating fluid (7) between the respective surfaces of the workpiece (1) and of the grinding elements (5), the operating fluid (7) having a surface tension of 60 dyne/cm or less and being capable of preventing surface oxidation of the aluminium material. In accordance with this process, a disc-shaped workpiece consisting of aluminium can be machined such that precision mirror finishing of high uniformity is obtained. <IMAGE>
