PURPOSE:To prevent a pilot hit by providing a release pin interlocked with a pilot pin on a metallic pin, on a metallic die, and also providing a detector for detecting an inserting timing of a pilot hole and a pilot pin. CONSTITUTION:A release pin 7 and a detector 8 are provided on progressive metallic dies 3, 4, respectively. The release pin 7 is interlocked with a pilot pin 5, and the detector 8 detects an instant when an upper die 3 descends and the pin 5 is inserted into a pilot hole 6 of a lead frame 1. The detector 8 and a feed roller 2 are coupled electrically, the detector 8 detects through the release pin 7 a fact that the pin 5 is about to be inserted into the pilot hole 6, and opens the feed roller 2 in the direction as indicated with an arrow A. When the upper die 3 returns to its original position, a signal of the detector 8 dies away and the roller 2 is closed in the direction B. By this method, a timing adjustment is executed, therefore, a pilot hit is prevented.
