PURPOSE:To improve the recording density without using a short wavelength for a laser light by using memory cells sealed with liquid crystal stacked in multi-layer as a DRAW type optical disc. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal cell 4 formed by clipping a liquid crystal 3 by transparent electrodes 1, 2 is used as a unit, a transparent spacer 8 is clipped between the liquid crystal cells, a multi-layered liquid crystal cell is clipped by glass plates 9, 10 or the like to constitute one liquid crystal disc 1. The liquid crystal cell 5 being object of write is made cloudy by applying an electric field to electrodes 12, 13 and other electrodes 1, 2, 15, 16 are kept to zero potential. In focusing the liquid crystal cell 5, since the liquid crystal 18 of the cell is made cloudy, the cell absorbs the laser light to dissipate heat but the liquid crystal not made cloudy does not absorb the heat of the laser light. In applying the electric field again, the liquid crystal subjected to laser light irradiation is not made cloudy. Thus, a data is written only to the liquid crystal selected by the laser light. |
