In an hydraulically-powered excavator comprising an upper excavator structure 1 rotatably mounted on a chassis 2 supported by pneumatic-tyred wheels 4, one or more variable output pumps 6 driven by an I.C. engine 5 for effecting one or more working operations also supply a travel motor 10 mounted in the structure 1 and connected to the wheels 4 through two-speed gearing 14 controlled by a lever 19 and through a shaft 15, 16 extending down the axis of rotation of the structure 1. A control valve 9 in the supply line 7, 13 to the motor 10 provides for forward or reverse drive under the control of a lever 11. Transmission gearing 17 and cardan shafts 18 transmit the drive from the shaft 15, 16 to the wheels 4. The pumps 6 and the motor 10 may be of axial piston type. |
