PURPOSE:A combustion improver that is composed of a lactic acid derivative such as methyl lactate and ethyl lactate, thus increasing the combustion speed of petroleum other than gasolin up to complete combustion. CONSTITUTION:A lactic acid derivative such as methyl lactate, ethyl lactate or butyl lactate is used as a combustion improver and added to light oil, A, B and C heavy oil and other petroleum other than gasolin in an amount of more than 0.0005% (0.0005% is enough). EFFECT:The amount of carbon monoxide formed is reduced less than 1/3.
