PURPOSE:To enable an optical fiber cable coated with a coating material superior in heat resistance, especially at high temp., and small in light transmission loss due to heat contraction by coating the outer layer of the core-shell type optical fiber with a photobridgeable polyolefin. CONSTITUTION:The clad 2 of the outer layer of the core-clad type optical fiber composed of the core 1 and the clad 2 is coated with a photobridgeable polyolefin layer 3 to form an optical fiber element. As the material of the core 1, an amorphous transparent polymer is suitable, preferably, such as methyl methacrylate homopolymer or copolymer. As the material of the clad 2, it may be eselected from polymers having a difference in refractive index from the core material of 0.01-0.15. A preferably photobridgeable polyolefin 3 is, in general, polyethylene or polypropylene grafted or copolymerized with alkoxysilane capable of being photobridged and condensed to form -Si-O-Si- bonds. |
