PURPOSE:To enable the polishing surface of a shaft-like member to be polished satisfactorily with high precision by supporting the shaft-like member with a pair of travelling polishing tapes on a V-shaped holding polishing section, pressing said member against the polishing section by a rotary belt and rotating and vibrating said member axially. CONSTITUTION:A shaft-like member W is mounted on holding-polishing sections 13a, 13b and a swingable mounting plate 20 is swung by a travelling rotary belt 24 to press said belt 25 against the outer peripheral surface of said member W while permitting a pair of polishing tapes 7a, 7b to travel and a vibration mechanism 27 to vibrate. Then, said member W is pressed against V-shaped polishing sections 13a, 13b and located while being rotated by said belt 24 and reciprocated forward and backward by a work support member 37. Thus, said member W can be polished by a composite action of press action of the belt 24, travelling of a pair of polishing tapes 7a, 7b, rotation and forward and backward movement of said member W and located by said sections 13a, 13b to provide a satisfactory high precision polishing surface. |
