A circuit, in the case of which the repetition period of the input frequency is measured and a pulse-number divider is controlled continuously by the measurement result, is used for converting an incoming signal frequency into a frequency which is output for evaluation and can be considerably higher, and additionally for standardisation which can be set in a defined manner and is controlled by numerical values. The pulse-number divider has an auxiliary frequency applied to its input, which auxiliary frequency is produced within the apparatus and from which the counting-out frequency is also derived for the period-duration measurement. Adjustable factors in the production of these auxiliary frequencies allow any input frequency to be matched to a desired standard value in a numerically defined manner. If, for their part, the auxiliary frequencies are controlled by numerical values, the input pulse sequence is evaluated using other physical variables or data which are otherwise present. <IMAGE>
