The present invention relates to an unlocking mechanism of a vertical adjustment device and a swivel device for the backrest of a vehicle seat. The unlocking mechanism comprises a control lever which is pulled out of a tubular body, an oblong hole which is angled in its central region and is formed in the control lever in the longitudinal direction, a tip of an arresting device which engages in the oblong hole, a locking state which is released with the aid of an arresting device by pulling out the control lever and a seat which can be raised or lowered by rotating the control lever.
