1,4-Dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid esters of the formula I <IMAGE> in which the substituents have the meaning given in Claim 1, exhibit actions typical of calcium antagonists. They can be used as medicaments. They are obtained by expedient conversion of corresponding compounds of the formula II <IMAGE> in which Z represents a reactive group.
