A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners such as nails, pins or studs, comprises a control means 25, 26, 28 for producing a step-by-step displacement of a magazine loader 20 and including a slidable firing unit 1, 2 actuated by the operator. The magazine is in the form of a block 20 held in a breech-block 18 by means of a pivoted latch 23, Fig. 5 (not shown), the breech block being provided with teeth 19 adapted to co-operate with a spring-loaded pawl 26 slidable in a member 25 which is pivoted in the tool housing. The member 25 is provided with a lever 28 which engages with a slot 6a in a sleeve 6 mounted in a hand-grip 1 surrounding a spring-loaded firing pin 2. In operation, upon applying the front end of the barrel against a workpiece and pressing on the hand-grip, the lever 28 is moved so as to cause the pawl to index the magazine along and bring a loaded chamber 31 into line with the firing pin. In a modification, the barrel 16 is loaded by springs 39, Fig. 10 (not shown) against the magazine in order that various sized magazines may be used. |
