To salt fresh animal skins on the flesh side prior to dehairing and after fleshing in the mfr. of leather, the skins are conveyed with the flesh side UP to a grate, where they are sprinkled with a curtain of salt across the width. A reciprocating conveyor takes them to a stacking station and returns to the salting station. Pref. from the fleshing table the skin is taken by a conveyor to the salting station on the grate, where a salt sprinkling belt applies the salt. Surplus is recycled by a screw conveyor in the trough. A transporter has frame for the suspension of a belt conveyor. This reciprocates between the salting and the deposit station. ADVANTAGE - Minimises the heavy manual labour for which new recruits are difficult to find.
