978,235. Clutch control. E. SCHWARZ. Jan. 23, 1962 [Feb. 15, 1961], No. 2511/62. Heading F2L. In an eccentric or crank press of the kind having a segmental key clutch comprising a catch arm 18 pivotally mounted on an eccentric -shaft 19 and loaded into an engaged position by a spring 20, two separately operable switch bolts 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are arranged so that they may engage the arm 18, thereby causing clutch disengagement, the position of the bolt 16<SP>1</SP> being adjustable in the direction of rotation of the shaft 19. The switch bolts 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are connected by pivoted levers 13, 13<SP>1</SP> with piston rods 12 operating in pivotally mounted compressed air cylinders 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. Alternatively, the control means may be magnetic, or electropneumatic. The bolt 16<SP>1</SP> and its associated control mechanism are mounted on a plate 21 having an arcuate slot 22 through which securing screws 23 may be passed to co-operate with screw-threaded bores 24 provided in the machine frame A. On a press having twohanded engagement, if the operator does not press the two operating levers down with both hands for sufficiently long, the second switch bolt operates to disengage the clutch and thereby terminate the descent of the ram. The second switch bolt 16<SP>1</SP> may be controlled in dependence upon a tool feed system such as the feed of a slide. |
