METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETECTING DEFECT IN CUTTING OF CONTINUOUS CAST PIECE

PURPOSE:To detect automatically a defect in cutting and a defect in disconnection by photodetecting radiant light which is radiated from a linear place parallel to or crossing slantingly a moving direction in the surface of a cast piece to be disconnected by a cutting defect sensor. CONSTITUTION:The cutting defect sensor 12 is provided to a cast piece cutting device 3 which is interlocked in synchronism with the continuous cast piece 1. The sensor 12 photodetects the radiant light radiated from the linear part parallel to or crossing slantingly the moving direction of the cast piece 1 at the part 1a of the cast piece to disconnected. The output signal of the sensor 12 has a waveform pattern including a singular waveform position according to the roughness of the surface of the cast piece 1 due to a scale, etc., and this is stored in the 1st memory as a reference signal. Then, the output of the sensor 12 which photographs the surface of the part 1a of the cast piece to be disconnected after the reference signal output is stored in the 2nd memory. Then, the storage contents of the 1st and the 2nd memories are compared with each other to judge that the waveform patterns of the both are different, thereby detecting the defect in cutting.
