The safety device is for a fan heater with a burner using a flame to burn gas. It has a safety valve in the gas supply pipe. The valve is capable of both permitting gas to flow to the burner and shutting off the flow of gas to the burner. A detector pipe is placed at least partially in the combustion products flow path of the flame. The pipe has an inlet into which the combustion products from the burner are drawn and an outlet from which the combustion products emerge. Two portions of an oxygen density cell in the detector pipe are exposed to the flame. A warm wind circulating fam draws air to be heated and the combustion products through the said fan heater.
