The invention proposes a unit which is used for driving devices belonging to a motor vehicle, such as, for example, sliding roofs, window winders etc. The drive unit comprises a preferably electric drive motor and a gear mechanism which is connected to the output of the latter, is accommodated in a housing and the worm shaft of which is held without backlash in the direction of its longitudinal axis by means of an adjusting screw which can be screwed into the housing against an end face of the shaft. The adjusting screw is locked in its prescribed operating position by an anti-rotation safeguard. A particularly expedient anti-rotation safeguard, which is, in particular, operationally reliable even when the housing is made of a plastics material, is achieved by the fact that a wall determining the axis of rotation of the adjusting screw is arranged on the outside of the housing and a cap is secured on the said wall in a manner secured against rotation. The cap has at least one fitting surface, which interacts without play with a mating fitting surface of the adjusting screw arranged on that side of the adjusting screw which faces away from the shaft.
