PURPOSE:To read accurately contrast by providing a light shield shutting reflected light from an original between a peripheral of a light source irradiating a moving original and the vicinity of a read line of the original to keep the irradiated luminous amount of the original face to a constant value. CONSTITUTION:The light shield plate 16 made of a metallic plate such as a curved shaped of aluminum from the opposite side of an opening 14 provided in the inside of a fluorescent tube of the light source 13 to the vicinity of a read line 15 of the original 12 is provided between the light source 13 irradiating the original 12 and the original placed on an original platen 11 moving at a prescribed speed in a prescribed direction along the lengthwise direction of the light source 13. The face 16A opposite to the light source 13 of the light shield plate 16 has a large reflectance and black zinc plating is applied to an outside face 16B so that it is prevented that the light reflected in the surface of the original 12 is reflected secondarily and reaches the read line.
