The invention relates to a process for the continuous wet or wet-catalytic purification of exhaust gases by adsorption and chemosorption of the gaseous pollutants onto activated charcoals with simultaneous desorption of these pollutants or their reaction products. The process is carried out at 100 to 800 times the acceleration due to gravity in a screen type centrifuge, in the rotor of which is arranged a layer composed of fine-grained or fibrous activated charcoal. The exhaust gas flows through this layer in co- or counter-current to the washing liquid. The pollutants are washed out by the desorbant flowing from the inside to the outside.
