PURPOSE:To prevent the output reduction due to uneven wear and to equalize wear quantities of both heads by making the gap width of the preceding head larger than that of the succeeding head and narrowing the difference between the width of auxiliary cores and the gap width. CONSTITUTION:When the magnetic gap width and the width of auxiliary cores 18a and 18b of a preceding head 12 out of a pair of magnetic heads are denoted as Q' and P' respectively and those of a succeeding head 13 are denoted as Q'' and P'' respectively, they are so constituted that Q'>Q'' is true and P' and P'' approximate Q' and Q'' and [P'<=(1-3)XQ']>[P''<=(1-3)XQ''] is satisfied. Thus, the output reduction of the head due to tape head touch defect which is caused by uneven wear is prevented and wear quantities of both heads are equalized to extend the life. |
