Clutch

A description is given of a clutch with an actuating device which comprises a diaphragm spring that acts upon a pressure plate, with an overcentre helper spring which assists the release of the clutch, and with a compensating spring which, in the engaged and wear-free condition of the clutch, rests against part of the actuating device without exerting a force. In order to reduce the maximum force which has to be applied to the clutch pedal, the effective force of the compensating spring when it comes into operation is directed counter to the direction of movement of the said part of the actuating device during the of the clutch and the spring force of the overcentre helper spring is increased in such a way that the force exerted on the clutch pedal by the compensating spring during the release of the wear-free clutch is essentially cancelled out.
