The invention relates to a process for passivating a metallic surface, which can replace, in particular, the conventional chromating process which is injurious to both health and the environment. The process according to the invention is based on a corrosion-inhibiting conversion coating which is produced by applying acetylacetone or a homologous 1,3-diketone and/or their salts and/or other derivatives.
